Reader’s Question:

Hello out there! I hear that I need some type of auto insurance card to drive in Georgia? Where can I get this card? If a friend borrows my car, can he borrow my card, as well?

Ashton

Atlanta, GA

Hey Ashton, what a kind friend you are to be loaning you car out to your buddies. However, before you even start driving, please make sure that you have at least the minimum insurance required in Georgia.

When you get auto insurance, your insurance provider will be the one to provide you with your insurance information card. This is your proof that you have enough auto insurance coverage to legally drive in the streets of Georgia, and this must be in your vehicle at all times. This is in case you get stopped by cops for whatever reason and they ask you to provide proof of your auto insurance coverage. If you decide to loan your car to a friend, please make sure he has your insurance information card. This card also comes in handy when you get into accidents as it will have all the essential insurance information about your car. Please do not hit the streets without this card. If you are ever caught without it, you will have to face the consequences of paying for fines and you may even have your license suspended. Driving without auto insurance may also cause your vehicle to be impounded. So, please avoid this unnecessary inconvenience and make sure that your vehicle is properly insured before driving

Reader’s Question:

I already know about the usual auto insurance coverage like collision coverage and comprehensive coverage. But I heard about automobile insurance endorsements, is that something I need here in Georgia?

Oliver

Atlanta, GA

Auto Collision coverage and Comprehensive coverage are the two most common and well-known insurance type in the market. There are lots of other auto insurance coverage out there, too.

Automobile insurance endorsements is just another name for those other policy extras that auto insurance companies in Georgia offer. These are towing insurance, auto glass insurance, daily rental insurance, and emergency roadside insurance. You don’t really need to have them and they are not required in any state, but they can come in handy.

Now, auto towing insurance is the one that comes rushing in when you need you car towed (hence the name). That should be clear enough for everybody. Then there’s auto glass insurance is for when you need to have your car window repaired. This is usually covered by comprehensive insurance, but having this will provide you with a lower deductible. And you might want to check the details of your comprehensive coverage about windows and side mirrors just to be sure.

Daily rental insurance kicks in when you need to rent a car. Why would you do that, you ask? Well, when
your car is in the auto shop and you need to go around, this auto insurance coverage will pay for the car rental. Without this, you may have to shoulder the car rental while your car is being repaired. Emergency roadside insurance is when you need mechanics to go to your location and have your car fixed there, like a flat tire.

Now, whether you need these other auto insurance types is up to you and your lifestyle, and of course, your budget.

Auto Insurance Policy in Atlanta Georgia – What Does it Cover?

Reader’s Question:

I was driving from a party one night and must have dozed off. The next thing I knew, I had run over a dog. Fortunately, there was no roadkill because the dog survived the operations and is now recuperating in a hospital. However, the medical bills I have yet to pay the animal hospital in Atlanta, Georgia are skyrocketing by the day. Can my car insurance policy help me in any way? I have a comprehensive coverage.

Jillian

Atlanta, GA

Hi Jillian. What a very noble thing to do to get out of your car, check the animal you ran into, and bring it to a hospital. When other motorists would have just left the poor thing for dead or assumed it was already roadkill, you took time to care. I would like to help you find solutions to your problem. There is already this thing called a pet injury coverage. It’s like a supplementary car insurance policy for those people who have pets and like to carry them around always. So, in cases of an accident, the insurance pays for the hospitalization of your pet. Some auto insurance companies will pay up to $500, I think. Now, since the dog you hit was not your pet, Property damage liability type of insurance will cover those pets that are not yours but are victims of a collision that involves the planholder. Pets are classified as property, in insurance lingo.

Ask the assistance of your insurance provider just to be sure. Check also if they have that kind of insurance in Atlanta, Georgia, because here in North Carolina we still don’t have that. You’ll soon overcome these obstacles. May God bless your kind soul.

Reader’s Question:

What does an SR22 do? My daughter never had a license. He was given a ticket for driving without automobile insurance on the car that he was operating. They said her license will be suspended. How can that be when She does not have a license yet? Now she is required in Albany, Georgia to obtain an SR22.

Ray

Albany GA

A SR22 is a certificate that is filed by the automobile insurance provider that shows that you have the car insurance liability insurance (at least the minimum limits of the state such as bodily injury liability and property damage liability) is in place for a certain individual. An SR22 is required when an auto insurance is provided to a person who got involved in an accident or was convicted of a traffic violation and was unable to provide proof of auto liability insurance.

So, if your daughter still lives in Albany, Georgia , she will need to obtain an sr22 insurance policy. To keep that insurance policy in effect she will be required to obtain her driver’s license in the state of Georgia. So, if your daughter lives outside of Georgia, she will need to find an insurance carrier that will offer a Georgia SR22. Most insurance providers will not offer an out-of-state sr22 insurance policy so she may have to obtain an insurance policy through an insurance provider run by the state in which he is living.

I have a bodily injury liability on my car insurance policy, do I still need to get medical coverage in Macon GA?

Denver

Medical Payments coverage covers medical bills to you and your occupants injured in an accident. There may also be coverage if as a pedestrian a car injures you.

It does not matter who is at fault with medical payment coverage. Medical payments may also cover policyholders and their family members when they are injured while in someone else’s vehicle or when they are hit by a vehicle while on foot. Coverage of course is limited to the terms and exclusions specified in your car insurance policy.

You may check your health insurance policy in Georgia to know the specifics since some health insurance exclude coverage for injuries due to vehicular accident.

On the other hand Bodily injury is not coverage for you if you are injured in an accident. Bodily injury liability covers those that you may cause injuries to when you are at fault in an accident. Bodily injury is mandatory in most states.
