Q: I’ve recently gotten my college degree, and since I can no longer get the good student discount on my Atlanta GA SR-22 insurance, I’m wondering if there is a new discount I could replace it with. Any ideas?

A: Great question. This depends on where you end up working and what kind of college degree you have. Companies such as All State, among others, have tailored their rates even closer to allow for cheaper or more expensive rates on your Atlanta GA SR-22 depending on your area of expertise.

At All State, if you have a degree in a math or hard sciences department, you can look at the possibility of cheaper Atlanta GA SR-22 car insurance rates. Eligible degrees include biology, engineering, statistics, physics, and more. All State justifies this 10% discount by saying science and math experts file fewer claims because they have personalities which stress attention to detail, and thus they drive more safely.

Another field related degree is the teacher’s discount you can get from joining a teacher’s union. It does cost to join the union, but what you save will cancel out what you spend, so in a way it’s like getting free union membership.

Q: I go to school in Macon, but since I work part time and study all day I have a hard time paying my premium. Is there some way a broke student like me can get cheap SR22 insurance?

A: Well, I’ve got one way you might like and another you probably won’5. Let’s start off with the bad news. If you’re going to school at least 100 miles away from home, then you can get cheap SR22 insurance by getting on your parent’s policy. That isn’t all, though. In order to qualify for this discount, you can’t take your car away with you to college. If you visit home for the holidays and can otherwise function without a car in Macon, then this might be the option for you.

A more palatable alternative would be to do a little extra school work. You can take a driver’s ed class, or you can take a defensive driving class. If you’ve already taken driver’s ed, most companies will you give you the discount. As for defensive driving, you have to take it of your own free will in order to get the discount, not be required to take it. Call your car insurance companies to find out where you can take a defensive driving class to get cheap SR22 insurance.
