Reader’s Question:

I already know about the usual auto insurance coverage like collision coverage and comprehensive coverage. But I heard about automobile insurance endorsements, is that something I need here in Georgia?

Oliver

Atlanta, GA

Auto Collision coverage and Comprehensive coverage are the two most common and well-known insurance type in the market. There are lots of other auto insurance coverage out there, too.

Automobile insurance endorsements is just another name for those other policy extras that auto insurance companies in Georgia offer. These are towing insurance, auto glass insurance, daily rental insurance, and emergency roadside insurance. You don’t really need to have them and they are not required in any state, but they can come in handy.

Now, auto towing insurance is the one that comes rushing in when you need you car towed (hence the name). That should be clear enough for everybody. Then there’s auto glass insurance is for when you need to have your car window repaired. This is usually covered by comprehensive insurance, but having this will provide you with a lower deductible. And you might want to check the details of your comprehensive coverage about windows and side mirrors just to be sure.

Daily rental insurance kicks in when you need to rent a car. Why would you do that, you ask? Well, when
your car is in the auto shop and you need to go around, this auto insurance coverage will pay for the car rental. Without this, you may have to shoulder the car rental while your car is being repaired. Emergency roadside insurance is when you need mechanics to go to your location and have your car fixed there, like a flat tire.

Now, whether you need these other auto insurance types is up to you and your lifestyle, and of course, your budget.

Reader’s Question:

I have 2 vehicles with full coverage and a deductible on collision coverage. My wife backed into mine damaging both of vehicles. Will I have to pay 2 deductibles? How will this affect my car insurance rate premiums in Georgia?

Carl

Northeast Cobb, GA

Thank you for your question. I’m assuming that you and your wife are insured by the same insurance provider.

If so, some insurance providers waive one of the deductibles if both policyholders are insured by them. I have seen some situations where insurance companies charge both deductibles too. You need to report this loss to your insurance providers if you have not already. You could also ask them about your situation with the insurance claims adjuster. It is up to the verbiage in your auto insurance policy as to if they can charge it or not. Some insurance policies define an incident as a single occurrence while other insurance policies define it as a per auto occurrence.

Each insurance carrier has its own method of evaluating policyholders, so the insurance points on your driving history may or may not have a direct impact on the auto insurance rates you pay for car insurance. The amount of insurance claims and the costs of those insurance claims are also factored into your auto insurance rate in in Northeast Cobb, Georgia.

Georgia SR22 Auto Insurance For SUV Drivers

Q: Why is Augusta SR22 insurance for an SUV more expensive than for another kind of car?

A: One of the main reasons for the differences in price you’ll see between Augusta SR22 insurance for SUVs and the same insurance for different cars is the sheer size difference. Almost always you’ll find that trucks of similar sizes also pay higher rates than these smaller cars.

In most cases, this works out into a win/lose situation if you have full coverage on your Augusta SR22 insurance policy. Since your car is larger and thus causes more damage when in an accident, you’ll see your liability rates for bodily injury and property damage rise. Meanwhile, since it is, as mentioned, larger, it also receives less damage in a car accident, and so you’ll often pay less for your collision coverage by a bit.

One other thing that goes beyond size and also makes SUVs more destructive, which in turn lands them with higher prices for Augusta SR22 liability coverage, is the positioning of the bumper. SUVs tend to have higher bumpers than other vehicles and so instead of running into the side or bumper of a smaller car in a collision, it hits the window at people level, causing more extensive damage, injury, and sometimes death.

Q: Will I pay more for my  Savannah Georgia SR22 car insurance if I buy a new car?

A: Unless you’re going from an extremely expensive somewhat used car to a more normal new car, then in most cases you will indeed pay more for your Columbus GA SR22 car insurance if you buy a new car. Even if you buy a used car you’ll pay more, because any car being financed is required to have an additional level of car insurance. This isn’t a law, but a requirement of the financers, and if you don’t get that additional coverage (i.e. comprehensive and collision coverage), then your financing company will be well within their rights to take your new car back.

Even if you buy your car all in one blow, you’ll still face higher Savannah SR22 car insurance prices if the car is new. This is because factors such as the value of the car being insured are taken into account when determining the rate. Some aspects of a newer car could lead you to a cheaper price, such as additional safety features and anti theft devices, or hybrid capabilities.

How Can I Get Cheap SR22 Insurance Coverage?

Q: I’m actually not a bad driver, but I have to file SR22 insurance because some guy ran into me when I was uninsured and the police caught it. I can’t afford these high rates. How do I get cheap SR22 insurance?

A: Since you have a good driving record, you are able to more easily take the risk that millions of people take every year because it is less likely to affect you. That is to raise the deductible on all of your non liability coverages.

Many people opt for the lowest deductible when buying car insurance because they feel that they don’t want to have to depend on coming up with a couple thousand dollars in order to pay their medical bills when they get into a bad accident. This is a valid concern, but if you raise your deductible to at least $1000 on your comprehensive and then on your collision coverage, then you can save around a hundred dollars a month in many cases and that money can be set aside for emergencies like car accidents.
