Q: I think I may have to pay my SR22 car insurance late this month. Will my coverage be cancelled?

A: Being even one day late often opens up the way for your SR22 car insurance to be cancelled. Unlike homeowners insurance, which allw for a 30 day grace period on their premiums, car insurance tends to be a stricter business and one with which you must take more care. Every state has different rules concerning grace periods, so in order to find out what those rules are, you’ll have to call up the Georgia Department of Insurance.

Most car insurance companies aren’t trigger happy when it comes to cancelling, though. One mistake will often be let go, and you won’t see any marks on your record or rises in your premium. But if you keep on paying late, cancellation might go on and happen, because as a high risk SR22 car insurance customer you only have so much leeway. If you have a history of making late payments, it’s possible that you will be required to pay for your entire six months at once.
